Even if I do qualify to be a member, I am pretty sure I would not be brave enough to go swimming at the Bondi Icebergs Club. Never mind the freezing cold water, they take their swimming seriously. To be a full swimming member, one has got to swim three out of four Sundays for 5 years.

My Friday night was spent at the FlashCamp SF. This is the second FlashCamp organized by Adobe and like its predecessor, it was held over at the Adobe San Francisco Office. For the uninitiated, the FlashCamps are free developer events focused on the Adobe Flash Platform.

I have recently chanced upon a podcast done by some folks back in Singapore, "The Shareen And Joe Show". After listening to a few episodes, I feel that the podcast deserves more than a tweet.

Living on the equator means you do not get seasons. It is simply warm and humid all year round. No seasons also mean no snow. I grew up in Singapore (a little island on the equator) and the only experience I have of snow is what I see in movies or television programs. We don't quite get the white Christmas.

Back home in Singapore for my Christmas vacation and next thing I know, I am off to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the weekend! Many thanks to Eric and Qinxin for organizing this crazy pig-out trip to our northern neighbour.

With the iPhone 2.1 Software Update, Apple made quite a few improvements to the user interface. Some of the changes may actually slipped by unnoticed. I was listening to my podcasts on the iPhone and spotted one of these.

Wordle is a really interesting visualization tool. It extracts keywords from a block of text and generate out "word clouds". I am mostly indifferent to generative stuff like this but Wordle is really quite fascinating.

I had a 2-week vacation recently, a really nice respite from work. I took the chance to visit Lake Tahoe, a place I heard so much about and really wanted to check it out. Los Angeles was thrown into the mix over the two weeks.

It is official. I am addicted to buying shoes. Just got myself another pair of Nikes. This time, it is one of the newest designs from Nike, specially made for the Beijing Olympics 2008.

In the past ten months, I have had many firsts. Last Thursday was another one. I had a company picnic over at Paradise Beach County Park, Tiburon. The more exciting first was that a bunch of coworkers organized a cycling trip to the park and I joined them.

Happened to chance across the portfolio site of Eugene Otto Schmidt at Das Kunst!. He has a pretty impressive set of artwork under his belt. Saw something I really like and reminded me of Spawn.

It is a geek-out weekend for me. I am attending the iPhoneDevCamp held over at Adobe Systems, San Francisco. The event is the second of its kind, a not-for-profit gathering to develop applications for iPhone and iPod Touch.

When was the last time you saw a keyboard that is blank? And by blank, I mean there are no inscriptions on all the keys. Zilch. Nada. Just good old plain keys. Meet the Das Keyboard Ultimate.

The iTune store launched the App Store earlier but in order to download any app onto the iPhone, you will need the latest iTunes 7.7 as well as the iPhone 2.0 software upgrade. Apple has yet to officially release the upgrade so when I saw an unofficial link posted in a TechCrunch article, I knew I had to take the plunge!

Every now and then, we need a fresh coat of paint to cover up the monotony of life. A brand new look as some might say. It is raw, plain and ugly but somehow I like it. Whether this new look will be permanent, I do not really know for sure. For now, I think it gives me a good base to work from.

Christine was over at San Jose for work and extended her trip for a holiday with her brother and friends. They decided to make a day trip to Yosemite National Park and kindly invited me to join them. The pleasure was all mine!

May 15 is "Bike To Work Day" in San Francisco and I participated in it. I have actually stopped cycling to work for the past few weeks back due to various reasons. One of which is that my pinkie is healing and I did not want to aggravate it (although I think it is more due to laziness).

Photography has never been a big thing for me. My first experience with photography actually started from a free Sony Cyber-shot digital camera that I won at a company's Christmas party.

I would never have believed if I did not see it with my own eyes. An animated movie of Dragonlance! Dragonlance is one of the first few series of fantasy novels that I read when I was growing up. I absolutely enjoyed it, especially The Chronicles Trilogy.

It has been 3 weeks since I went to the hospital to check on my pinkie. Since then, it has been firmly lodged in a splinter. The doctor scheduled a follow-up to check how the healing is going.

Sometimes I feel like everything I know in my life changed overnight. Right becomes left and left is now right... literally.

I know I haven't been updating this blog recently but I have a valid excuse for it! Well, apparently I did break my pinkie when I had that fall off my bike a month ago. I thought it was a bad sprain and I applied the general rule of "if it is broken, it will hurt like a bitch if you try to bend it". It sure did not hurt that bad when i try to bend it.

I made it in one piece! Rode my bike to the office from the BART station in the morning and then back to the BART station in the evening.
Mar 09 2008
It has been on my mind for a while and today I finally got off my ass and did something about it. I went out and got myself a road bike.

We see logos everywhere we go. A company logo represents a huge aspect of its brand and if well designed, it would be the single unique graphical element to distinguish itself from competitors.

There is this orange Volkswagon GTI that I kept seeing around the neighbourhood of my workplace.

It's been a while since I last wrote anything. Things got a little hectic for a while and days just flew past me in a whizz. In the midst of all that frenzy, I did manage to take a little time off to do something new and different.

Got myself a new set of headphones from the Audio Technica's Earsuit range. Decided to replace my Grados SR80 with the Audio-Technica ATH-ES7. Got it from Amazon.com at a price way cheaper than the recommended retail price.

I have always enjoyed reading and buying books, more so the ones on technical topics. It can almost be like an addiction for me. I wish for more hours in a day, just so that I have more time to read my books. One of my daily joys is to have the time to read when I commute to work. It was something I missed doing when I was driving.

We all know too well how a good session of retail therapy can perk things up. Seeing that it has been a while since my last shopping outing, I could not say no when my friends suggesting heading to outlets over the weekend.

Been deliberating on this for a while, did a bit of reading and catching up on the updates and I have decided to re-visit an old friend of mine: World of Warcraft.

One of the new features in Mac OS X Leopard is the Quick Look. By using the Quick Look function, you can view files without launching the related application to open it.

Even though the Mac OS does great with all the graphic user interface, there will be times when one needs to dig into the internals of the underlying system through the shell (Terminal). Even more so when you deal with programming of any sort.

In the past month, I made several purchases online and I thought it would be interesting just to go through the kind of items that I am willing to buy off the World Wide Web.
Dec 22 2007
It was 21st December, the last work day of year 2007. After a hearty meal with my colleagues, I took a nice slow walk from my workplace to the train station. It was quite chilly but somehow I enjoyed it. With my Shures stuck tightly into my earbuds and my hands snugly tucked in the pockets of my jacket, I strolled down the streets.

For those using Google Analytics to track and monitor traffic on your sites, you may have upgraded the legacy code (urchin.js) to the new tracking code (ga.js). If you have done that, chances are the sites implementing those javascript code will fail the W3C XHTML 1.0 strict compliance.
